Campground and Picnic Area
Powder Horn's best kept secret, our private campground situated along the babbling shores of Laurel Creek offers primitive campsites equipped with a grill, a picnic table, fire rings and firewood. Get the gang together for a friendly game of horse shoes and then cool off by wading in the stream. This serene setting is the perfect place to pitch a tent for an overnight adventure in the great outdoors, a lunchtime nature break picnic or a twilight campfire complete with s'mores.

Additionally, a picnic area equipped with picnic tables, charcoal grills, and a playground is located at Bright Penny Lake, across from the clubhouse.  The area between the clubhouse and the pool contains a fire ring and two picnic tables, a perfect location for snack time without loosing your spot at the pool.

Please note that to use any outdoor grill or fire ring, you need to make a reservation for a specific site with the front gate.

Lakes and Creeks

Launch your canoe or kayak on one of our three lakes and fish for bass, sunnies or brim or simply enjoy a relaxing paddle. Left your boat at home? We have 2 pedal boats and life jackets located on Bright Penny Lake. Want your outdoor time a little more action packed? Then try trout fishing, wading, or swimming in Laurel Creek or Elk Creek, the two creeks that flank the Powder Horn Community.  Elk Creek, a state stocked trout stream, will satisfy even the most experienced angler. A NC fishing license with appropriate endorsements is required to fish either waterway.
